Cars in German Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Officers reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Police say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.

A high-ranking official commented the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
